Themes that kids actually love

The original "something to wear" answer for STEM kids — and the parents who grew up wishing.

Public design rule, est. 2018

Pockets for everyone

Every dress. Every skirt. Every pair of pants and leggings. Most shorts. Phone-sized — not "lipstick" pretend-pockets. We measured. The brand measured. Reviewers measure. They fit a phone.

Princess Awesome co-founders Eva St. Clair and Rebecca Melsky
Run by women — literally

Eva & Rebecca

Rebecca Melsky was teaching elementary school in Washington, D.C. when she went looking for a dinosaur dress for her daughter and found nothing. She called her friend Eva St. Clair. They sketched dresses on napkins, ran a Kickstarter that broke the record for childrenswear ($56K, 1,177 backers, 2014), and got profiled in The New York Times, NPR, Buzzfeed, and The Atlantic.

The premise was simple: kids who like rocket ships and dinosaurs deserve to wear them, and clothing categories like "girls" and "boys" had been doing too much heavy lifting. The brand has shipped over 700,000 garments on that thesis — most of them with pockets.

A few signature pieces

Across the catalog you'll find the same prints across every garment type — these are the ones the founders sign first.

Family-matching, same print

Most prints come in a kids size run (2T–14) AND an adult size run (XS–4XL). Tag a sibling, an aunt, a teacher — the same fabric, the same colorway, just sized for the room.

Frequently asked

Sourced from the brand's own FAQ + Curated Sense customer questions through Apr 2026.

Are Princess Awesome dresses true to size?

Yes — the brand uses standard US children's sizing (2T–14) and an XS–4XL adult size run. Dresses run slightly long for twirl-room. Each product page shows a measurement chart in inches; if your child measures between two sizes, size up — the empire-waist construction means a slightly looser dress still fits, and they'll grow into it.

Do all Princess Awesome dresses really have pockets?

Yes. Pockets are on every dress, every skirt, every pair of pants and leggings, and most shorts. The brand made 'pockets for everyone' a public design rule in 2018 and has never shipped a dress without them since. The pockets are deep enough for a phone, two crayons, or a small dinosaur.

Where are Princess Awesome clothes made?

The brand designs in Maryland, USA. Production is split between USA-based knitters (most leggings and lounge pants) and audited overseas factories (most dresses) that the founders visit annually. The company publishes its production partners and its WRAP/Sedex certification status on the 'How We Make Things' page.

How does the brand handle gender?

Princess Awesome doesn't gender its clothes. Every print runs in 'kid' sizes 2T–14 with the same cuts, and most run in adult sizes too. Boy Wonder is a sub-line for prints and silhouettes the founders pitched at boy customers (unicorns, sparkle, pink), but it's the same factory, same fit standards, same pockets.

Do the prints fade after washing?

The prints are reactive-dye sublimation on cotton/spandex blends, not screen prints — so they fade only as fast as the fabric does. Wash cold, tumble dry low, and you'll get 50–100 wash cycles before any visible color shift. The brand publishes a fabric-care guide and a wash-test photo log.

Do you ship to APO/FPO and Canada?

Curated Sense ships Princess Awesome products via the brand's US fulfillment centers. APO/FPO addresses ship at standard USPS rates with 7–14 day estimated arrival. Canadian shipping is available with duties and brokerage shown at checkout. International outside US/CA is not currently supported.
